Dr David Peacock will give a fascinating, illustrated introduction to the history of Donnington Castle (near Newbury), including the family who built it in the 14th century, connections to the Chaucers and a Queen of France, plus a brief look at its role in the English Civil War, which led to the destruction of much of the building.
David Peacock researches, writes and gives talks about the history of the Newbury area from the Stone Age to the present day. He is the author of The Story of Newbury (2011) and Newbury Roman Cemetery (2018). Formerly a teacher of politics and history at Padworth College, he continues to teach local history classes and present talks to many clubs and societies. His PhD investigated Jack of Newbury and the Tudor cloth industry in Newbury.
